University of Porto, Porto, Portugal, 15-17 June 2009

As the name implies, this will be the 15th in a biennial series of

conferences which commenced in Scotland in September 1981, all organized

by Prof. Ian Marshall, the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Composite

Structures. They continue to be the only international forum with a

focus on structural aspects of composite materials and are one of the

longest running “composites” conferences. This will be the first

occasion the conference will be held in Portugal. Prof. Ian Marshall was

very kind to invite me to continue this series of events.

As in previous editions, the conference proceedings will form a Special

Issue of the Journal of Composite Structures (ELSEVIER)

Objective

Finite Element Method – Composites network was established in May 2002. The mission of the FEM – Composites network is to provide a communication forum for the engineering and scientific community in the field of analysis of composites and to provide the growth of knowledge, by relating this experience to practical applications.

The network provides an industrial interface between research division, education section and the industry.

Participants

Presently FEM-/Composite Network consists of 120 members in which 49 companies involved together with 8 research institutes and universities. The present members are a combination of small and large organizations, and represent people with a wide area of interests, from all over the North.

Everyone who is interested in advanced FE modelling and use of fibre composite and sandwich structures are welcome to participate to the network including the experienced and non-experienced persons.

Normally the applications will be discussed in the group in general terms to avoid disclosure of company details and products.
